Wolds planning application rejected
Derbyshire Dales Liberal Democrats are very pleased that the application to build over 400 houses on the Gritstone Road (Wolds) site was turned down by the District Council's special Planning meeting on 28 March.
Cllr Sue Burfoot stated "This was a success for the sustained community action, which local councillors were happy to support. It marks a significant moment where an unrealistic proposal which would have been damaging to existing and future residents was turned down for the right reasons - a serious threat of uncontrollable surface (and foul) water run off in extreme conditions, and a complete absence of homes that even the Government class as 'affordable'." The proposed site was also completely land-locked, i.e. it could only be accessed through narrow existing estate roads.
The Lib Dems continue to call on the Government to provide Derbyshire Dales with the proper infrastructure it needs it needs, in particular surface and foul water drainage. Rather than imposing inappropriate housing targets on our communities, it should be providing the money to enable remediation and development of brown-field sites.'
