Spot the Problem

St John's St Ashbourne with pedestrian 'no go' zone

You can't always get what you want.
It seems that even in the times of a pandemic, the ongoing contest between Ashbourne's pedestrians and heavy goods vehicles still sees pedestrians losing out.

If you look carefully along this stretch of pavement in St John's Street Ashbourne, at the very point where the pavement narrows significantly (preventing pedestrians from socially distancing) the new 'pavement in the road' also narrows!

To compound the problem the 'new pavement' is also filled with the water filled plastic barriers and so doesn't really exist!

The reason is of course not hard to find - just watch a large vehicle coming down Buxton Road and turning in to St John Street and you will see that they need almost all the width of the road to complete the turn, often with their tyres tearing at the tarmac as they make this very tight turn (well below the recommended radius for such a road).
