Can you help make crossing this road safer?

Trying to cross Derby Road, Ashbourne

Whether walking to school, going shopping or catching a bus, many pedestrians try to cross this busy road, using the correct location - where the 'dropped kerbs' have been placed.

However, it is difficult at the best of times and a nightmare at the am and pm peaks.

We would like your help to try to persuade Derbyshire County Council to re-think their approach to this dangerous junction.

Many strategies have been suggested for making crossing this road safer. These include:

  • A lower speed limit (30mph rather than 40mph) with speed cameras
  • A central reservation to allow crossing in stages
  • A ‘pedestrian crossing’
  • A fully signalised crossing

Please sign our petition to request that DCC Highways and their new Cabinet Member, Charlotte Hill, have a re-think over what they currently regard as acceptable for the residents of Ashbourne.

Thank you.  Rob Archer, Peter Dobbs and Nick Wilton, Ashbourne Lib Dem District Councillors
